A Review of the Sports Day in Baram's Nation

BaramNara is a long-running online game celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, a large-scale commemorative event is now underway, so I decided to try the new Heukharang class for myself.

In line with current trends, the game now offers a tightly packed schedule of daily and weekly content, making it feel well suited to steady, ongoing play. Calling it “marathon online” would hardly feel like an exaggeration.

More recently, BaramNara also launched the “Baram Sports Day” event for Family Month. Inspired by the school sports days many players will remember from their student years, it features a range of mini-games along with reward opportunities. After spending some time with it myself, I wanted to put together a quick review.

Family Month Baram Sports Day

Baram Sports Day runs from May 7 to Wednesday, June 3. There are four events in total: Cheerful Soccer, Obstacle Race, Flip the Colored Stones, and Wobbly Footholds. From weeks 2 to 4, the schedule also opens up with new team battles and a championship.

Getting in is simple. Just click the Sports Day event from the event menu at the bottom of the screen.

The first thing you need to do is register a representative character. It is worth keeping in mind beforehand that this can only be done once per account and cannot be changed afterward.

Looking Around the Sports Grounds

Head to the event area and you will find yourself in a busy sports ground filled with players.

The layout centers on a soccer field, with a running track circling around it.

At the lower end, there is the main gate of BaramNara School, marked with its opening date of April 5, 1996, along with a hanging 30th anniversary banner.

Once you pass through the gate, you are greeted by the ice cream vendor ajusshi.

Follow the dirt path to the right, framed by pretty cherry blossoms, and you will come across a variety of NPCs.

The Turtle Merchant owner, holding balloons, will exchange Sports Day coins for various prizes. Right beside him, the Turtle Merchant cart gives out cotton candy with 300% EXP as a gift twice a week.

Walsuk’s place has set up a snack stand, and according to the in-game story, the Turtle Merchant owner brought in a truck from far away. For just 1,000 jeon, you can buy nostalgic snack-shop foods, treats, and drinks. They do not provide any special effects, but there is a small charm in seeing the one-line comment that appears each time you eat one.

Cleaning Committee Head Do Hwigwang rewards you with Sports Day coins if you help by picking up at least 30 pieces of trash in a week.

He also shares a hint that there are 10 treasure notes hidden throughout the school grounds.

Nearby, there is also a Thinking Squirrel statue and a cherry blossom tree with a heart-shaped opening set up as a photo spot, making it look like a nice place to take screenshots with your partner.

You can also earn Sports Day coins by answering quizzes from Study Committee Head Quisooni. They are made up of spring-themed initial-consonant quizzes, so even players who are not especially familiar with BaramNara should be able to solve them easily enough.

Elsewhere, families were sitting on mats and eating lunchboxes, a small child was sharing ice cream time with a puppy, children were cheering with enthusiasm, and Principal Dohogwiin was delivering a ceremonial address. Each was enjoying the sports day in a different way.

It brought back memories of childhood, and more than anything, it felt like the whole event had been prepared with real care.

Enjoying the Sports Day Matches

Wobbly Footholds can be started by speaking to Entertainment Club Head Dareomjwi.

The objective is to step on every blue tile once while avoiding the red ones. Step on a red tile five times and it is game over. The Narak difficulty added in week 2 lowers that limit to four, and Challenge Mode cuts it to just three, so the tension ramps up quickly.

The other three events are started by speaking to Athletics Club Head Ddaddabong.

Cheerful Soccer uses 2:2 team matchmaking, with shoot, pass, tackle, and dash skills available. If you hold down the shoot skill, you can fire off a long-range shot as well, so defending while staying face-to-face with the ball carrier is important. It was genuinely fun and had the feel of a classic soccer game.

Flip the Colored Stones is a 1:1 match where the player who creates more stones in their own color within the time limit wins. Move close to a stone and use a basic attack, and it flips to your color. Items also appear at intervals, including ones that protect your stones, steal the opponent’s stones, or briefly paralyze the other player.

Obstacle Race is built around using the vault skill to clear obstacles and reach the finish line.

The key is timing your jump properly one tile before each hurdle, and you need to clear everything cleanly, including hurdles, cones, soccer balls, and even tree roots. Balloons, on the other hand, should be passed through without jumping. That said, in solo play only hurdles seemed to appear, while the other obstacle types appeared to be limited to competitive matches.

By taking part in these four events, you can earn Sports Day points regardless of whether you win or lose. Naturally, wins give you a little more.

If you collect at least 20 points and bring them to Student Council President Shinbaram, you can receive Sports Day coins.

Closing Thoughts

That wraps up my review of BaramNara’s Family Month Baram Sports Day event.

The mini-games are also easy to enjoy with friends. If you speak to the podium guide, you can even take a commemorative screenshot at the first-place podium, so this feels like a good excuse to log back in after a long break and leave with a few fond memories.
