This post covers the Stigma System, a feature exclusive to MapleStory M.
What are Stigmas?
Stigmas are equippable items obtained by defeating bosses original to MapleStory M. (As of May '26, 아칸 and 아자젤 have been released.)
You can equip them in the Sanctuary of Light tab. Their stat boosts vary by color and rank.
What types of Stigmas are there?
Stigmas fall into the following categories.
Equipping a matching set also activates a set bonus.
To activate it, you need to:
① Equip Stigmas of the same rank
② Equip Stigmas of the same color
Both conditions must be met.
For example, if you equip 아칸's Red Stigma at Epic rank, you must also equip 아자젤's Red Stigma at Epic rank to activate the set bonus.
Max Damage is still important in MapleStory M, making Red Stigmas a popular choice.
How do you obtain Stigmas?
There are several ways to obtain Stigmas, most notably by defeating bosses.
They have a low drop rate, so you will need multiple attempts.
Newly obtained Stigmas can be traded through the Trade Station, but become untradeable once equipped.
For this reason, players with high-end gear usually buy their Stigmas from the Trade Station.
You can also obtain them by completing achievements, but this is limited to 1 time per account.
Examples of equipped Stigmas
As shown above, the set bonus will not activate if the ranks differ, even when the colors match.
The set bonus activates when both the color and rank match.
Which Stigmas should you equip?
If you have high-end gear and a large enough budget, equip a Unique Red Stigma set.
For a medium-to-high budget, choose an Epic Red Stigma set.
For a medium budget, choose a Unique Blue or Orange Stigma set.
For a low budget, choose an Epic Blue or Orange Stigma set.
*Green Stigmas are for hunting.
