A lot of the newer subculture games coming out lately

tend to have some kind of affection system.

One of Nexon’s flagship subculture games,

Blue Archive, is no exception.

Raise that bond rank!

Gift spam time

In Blue Archive, the affection quest system

is handled through the bond rank system.

As your bond rank goes up, students start messaging you on MomoTalk,

and part of the fun is how natural the dialogue feels—like you’re reading a real chat.

Each student has gifts they like,

and giving them those boosts affection even more.

As affection goes up, you get a small stat boost,

and the bond story unlocks in stages.

Rio bond story!

Blue Archive has a ton of memorable characters,

and one of my personal favorites, Tsukatsuki Rio,

comes off like a cool, rational mastermind type,

but underneath it all, she’s basically a total disaster.

For security reasons, she never orders delivery,

survives every meal on discount lunchboxes and frozen food,

and somehow treats that as the “rational” choice, which is kind of funny and sad at the same time.

Rio even springs a surprise confession on Sensei,

after Sensei goes through all that trouble for her—cooking with admittedly iffy skills

and even receiving her packages instead—

but Sensei completely fails to catch on.

At the end of Blue Archive bond rank stories,

a Memorial illustration is given as a reward.

They visit the hideout like they promised, only for both of them to get flustered,

because Rio’s hideout turns out to be absolutely covered in trash.

So yes—her cleaning skills are just as nonexistent as her cooking skills.

In the end, Sensei helps clean up Rio’s hideout…

The Memorial illustration picks up right from that story scene,

and this is the shot where she’s up above watching the trash get cleaned up.

Sure, her everyday life skills are basically at zero,

but when it comes to things like building robots, tech, and information gathering,

she’s absurdly capable in other areas,

so honestly, maybe that’s enough.

And Sensei, meanwhile, has ridiculously strong cleaning skills.

Might be the most competent person in Blue Archive when it comes to daily life..?

For reference, at the end of May, Rio’s alternate version character,

Armed Rio, has already been announced for release.

With Rio personally suiting up and heading straight into the front lines,

I’m really looking forward to seeing what she’ll be like—and what kind of affection story she’ll get!
