VTubers let the person behind the avatar express who they are, while a fantasy-inspired appearance adds a different kind of charm. It almost feels as though a comic book character has stepped into the real world to interact with us.

That got me thinking: “What if an NPC from a game made their debut as a VTuber?”

So I put together a few concepts of my own.

루나쨩 (Arona from Blue Archive)

In her chats with Sensei, Arona sometimes brings up the outside world. She would like to venture out herself and meet all sorts of people.

Hearing this, Sensei suggests a VTuber debut stream—and so 루나쨩 begins her streaming career.

Her VTuber avatar is small and cute, with puppy-like features and softly curled hair. Her personality is every bit as puppy-like, too. She is affectionate, and a little cuteness finds its way into everything she says, so winning her viewers’ hearts comes naturally.

Her main content is reviewing new products from the Angel 24 convenience store, though she spends most of the time smiling and saying, “So tasty~ Hehehe.” Whether these reviews are actually meant to be informative is anyone’s guess, but her viewers are perfectly happy and assure her that her reviews are the best.

Recently, her Angel 24 Convenience Store Best Product Tournament passed 1 million views, and these tournament streams have become a regular feature ever since.

She also occasionally streams gacha pulls on behalf of viewers, but for some reason, the results are never good.

오네리아 (네리아 from DNF Mobile)

Her streaming name is 오네리아, combining her original name, 네리아, with “onee-san,” meaning “big sister.”

After welcoming countless new and returning adventurers as a guide in DNF Mobile, she began streaming with a simple thought: “It would be nice to have somewhere we could chat more comfortably.”

She wanted those connections to be more than passing encounters in the game. Instead, she hoped to create something like a favorite neighborhood bar—a familiar place to drop by and unwind at the end of the day.

Her VTuber avatar is a bar owner with a mature, older-sister air. The design keeps the beauty mark beneath her eye, pairing long, gently wavy hair with a shirt and vest in muted colors.

She usually speaks in a gentle, unhurried way, but an adventurer’s reckless choices or excessive greed might earn a playful scolding: “Even your big sister thinks that’s a bit much.”

Her main content is a late-night chat stream with a street-side bar theme. She pairs in-game items with real-world food to recommend the day’s drinking snacks for adventurers, then settles into long, thoughtful conversations over a light drink.

She barely seems tipsy even after drinking, and her knack for giving adventurers just the advice they need is impressive. She also frequently streams with Siusha from the Moonlight Tavern, saying their personalities are a good match.

Drawing on her experience as a guide NPC, she regularly opens her Counseling Center for Lost Adventurers for newcomers to DNF Mobile.

The focus is less on character stats and more on encouragement. Viewers love her reassuring comments, such as “It’s all right to take your time. The dungeons aren’t going anywhere, after all.” Occasionally, a viewer takes the baby act too far and starts crying out for “Mama,” only to find themselves quietly banned.

Mari (Nao from Mabinogi Mobile)

Her streaming name is Mari, taken from her full name, Nao Mariota Pryderi.

She once preferred her own company, but her travels with the adventurer taught her the joy of sharing an adventure with someone else. VTuber streaming became her way of meeting other people without too much pressure.

Her VTuber avatar is a mysterious astrologer with a distinctly dreamlike presence. The design retains Mabinogi’s characteristic white-toned dress and cloak silhouette, with small star and moon ornaments floating faintly above her head. She always holds either tarot cards or a pendulum.

Her gaze is gentle, yet it is hard to tell exactly where she is looking. Naturally, viewers have turned the idea that she is “looking at the future beyond the screen” into a meme.

Her main content is a fortune-telling stream themed around “An Adventurer’s Day, Read in the Stars and Cards.” She goes live for a short session every day, or a few times a week, drawing a card for the day and using it to explore adventures and everyday life.

She works skills, equipment, and the gods of Erinn from Mabinogi Mobile into the cards’ symbolism, weaving the game naturally into her readings: “Today’s card is Lunge, a charging card that only knows how to go straight ahead. That means it’s all right to take the plunge once in a while, rather than overthinking things.”

From time to time, she also hosts Nao’s Zodiac Counseling and Tarot Astrology ASMR streams. With real cards shuffling, pages turning, and gentle chimes in the background, she reads the cards’ meanings in a soft, low voice.

So many viewers fall asleep during these streams that even with thousands or tens of thousands watching, the chat moves slowly. One particularly large donation even drew attention when a viewer said the streams had cured their long-standing insomnia.

Those are my imaginings of what might happen if game NPCs made their debut as VTubers.
