An overview of three content types that document the journey of MapleStory characters #아카이빙
마빡도로시

Hello
This keyword is archiving, focusing on the features that record the experience of playing the game
With that in mind, I have gathered the official archiving content in MapleStory that records a character’s progression, and organized it so that new players can understand what each one is and what its main points are from a beginner’s perspective
Automatic capture feature in Settings

To begin with, one of the best ways to look back on your in-game memories is through screenshots. The issue is that it is not easy to capture them every time, and it is also very common to simply forget
That is where the “Auto Capture” option in the Screenshot tab of the settings menu can help. If this feature is enabled, screenshots are automatically taken and saved to the location shown above when you level up, when a new monster is registered to Monster Collection, and when an achievement is completed
Unless you turn the option off yourself, these screenshots will continue to build up automatically. If you have been playing without paying much attention to this feature, going through them all at once can actually be quite interesting, because they show the path your character has taken in chronological order
Even if this kind of thing does not interest you at all, there is still a practical advantage. Screenshots are also taken automatically when characters raised for Union leveling gain levels, so once enough of them accumulate they can take up a noticeable amount of space, and deleting them can help free some storage
However, if the save path is set to the MapleStory folder, keep in mind that the files may be lost for reasons such as reinstalling the game

There are currently three official types of content in MapleStory that let you keep a record of your adventures. Let us briefly look at what each one is
[World Archive]
World Archive is the most recently added of the three collection features. You collect investigation records by speaking to an NPC once or defeating a monster once

Once an entry is registered, you can view the investigation record for that target. In that sense, it is similar to Monster Book, but because it also includes NPCs, it offers much more content, and because the registration method is straightforward, it feels like an improved version in several respects
In terms of difficulty alone, with content currently released only up to Arcane River, it is far easier than the other two covered later.
This is because Monster Collection relies on probability, and Achievements often require difficult conditions, whereas World Archive uses a system where entries are registered with certainty
However, if you are aiming for a full collection, the difficulty will increase dramatically once Grandis is added later, because high-tier boss monsters will then be included among the collection targets
There are also special investigation records that can be collected through special interactions such as speaking with NPCs, along with supplementary sections in the appendix covering races, terms, history, and related topics, so it is generally seen as a feature that was put together with considerable care. Of course, if you have no interest in the story at all, it may not mean much to you, but since it does not affect character progression, it is also easy to leave aside if you want to
World Archive progress is shared within your Maple ID, and boss monsters cannot be registered through Practice Mode
[World Archive] : Collection Rewards
You can claim rewards every 250 investigation records collected, up to 1,500 total, and all of these rewards are cosmetic items
-
[250] Knowledge Appraiser Chair
-
[500] Maple World Map - Maple Home Furniture
-
[750] Knowledge Pioneer Chair
-
[1000] Maple World Map Custom Background
-
[1250] Character Select Screen Theme
-
[1500] Arcane River Map Custom Background

[World Archive] : On the Difficulty of Obtaining Rewards
As you can see, these are all appearance-related items, so one advantage is that if none of them particularly appeal to you, there is no real need to do it
In general, the most popular reward is the Character Select Screen Theme obtained at 1,250 investigation records. Even when only the Maple World archive existed, it was not especially difficult, but after the Arcane River archive update increased the number of collectible entries by 233, and with the current maximum now at 1,633, it has become very manageable. If you spend a little more time on it, the 1,500 Arcane River custom background is also within reach. If your immediate goal is the Character Select Screen reward, the calculation looks like this
-
1699(최대 수집 가능 개수) -1250(캐릭터 선택 창 요구 수집 개수)-67(더 시드 최대 수집 개수) = 382(여유 수집 개수)
In Victoria Island, there are sections that can only be registered after clearing theme dungeons or story quests again, and there are also NPCs that can only be registered at places such as the end of Zakum’s obstacle map. The important point, however, is that whether an entry is difficult or easy to register, it is still worth the same 1 point, so unless you are aiming for a full collection, you can skip those without hesitation
For Arcane River, all story skip options are currently available, and registration can be done simply by moving through the maps without separately clearing quests again. A practical approach is therefore to register everything there first with the Premium Teleport World Map function, and then fill in the rest on Victoria Island
Below are some reference notes that may be useful for Victoria Island
-
Kerning Tower/Fairy Academy Ellinel/Secret Forest Ellodin/Gold Beach Resort/Mushroom Castle/Riena Strait/Lion King’s Castle/Fantastic Theme Park/Korean Folk Town/Elin Forest/Alien Base/Rocky Mountain Colossus/Golden Temple: all entries can only be registered by progressing the quests, but if full collection is not your goal, you can simply register what is possible while passing through and skip the rest
-
The Seed in the Tower of Oz under the sea: there are many possible registrations, but if you have never done it before, there is a lot to learn, so this can be skipped
-
NPCs that are inconvenient enough to skip: Nineheart and Lightning at Future Door (story required) / Forgotten Keeper in Temple of Time (story required) / Mu Gong in Mu Lung (three flying monster types in Scrapyard) / Rira in the Abandoned Mine (located at the end of an obstacle map)
-
Maple Island: accessible with a beginner skill, but only for Adventurer classes
-
Fire Bomb in the Abandoned Mine: move through the lava at the far left of Cave of Trial 2
-
Aura and Ali in the Abandoned Mine: Abandoned Mine Cave Investigation Map and Investigation Exit Map
-
Ellinia’s Luis: can be registered by accepting the Forest of Patience quest from Hersha and entering through Shane
-
Nameless robots in Haven can also be registered
-
The food stall is inside this portal. Mano Balrog can only be attacked 3 minutes after entering
-
Location of Carta in Aquarium
-
Location of Leviathan in Leafre
-
Location of Guard Robot L: it moves when hit with a normal attack
-
For Kritias, it is possible to enter the town through the Teleport World Map even without completing the quest
-
Location of Lion Head in Edelstein
[Monster Collection]

Monster Collection is a collection feature added in 2015. It works through a system where defeating monsters gives you a certain chance to register them in Monster Collection

When a monster is successfully registered, a notification like the one above appears along with a sound effect. Players who spend a lot of time on this content often say that the sense of achievement at that moment, especially when the target was difficult to register, becomes an important reason to keep going
It includes ordinary monsters, boss monsters, elite monsters with specific modifiers such as the poison-spraying Homunculus that also appeared in the recent Jin event, flying monsters designed to prevent AFK play, monsters that only appear during certain quests, and many more, so the range is extremely broad. Players who seriously pursue it tend to invest a great deal of time and effort. It is also said that the higher a monster’s level is, the harder it is to register
Unlike Monster Book or World Archive, there is no feature that lets you view additional information about a monster after it has been registered. These collection records are shared within the world

Entries can also be registered not only by defeating monsters, but through the Mysterious Monmon sold in event coin shops or given out as Sunday Maple gifts
[Monster Collection] Rewards obtainable from completing 1 row and 1 page

Monster Collection rewards are broadly divided into three categories. First, each time you complete a single row, you can claim the box assigned to that row

These boxes can contain a small amount of mesos, mileage bundles, trait-related items, and enhancement-related items such as Spell Traces and the scroll shown above. In the past, other enhancement items such as Flames of Rebirth and Meister Cubes were also included, but after those items were reworked, they were removed one by one, so for practical purposes they are no longer part of the reward pool

Filling an entire page also gives an additional item reward, but while it is technically a reward, it currently has almost no practical value when compared with the amount of effort required

In addition to the items shown above, page completion rewards also include cube chairs like these, and in practice these are treated as the distinctive and meaningful rewards of Monster Collection. The cube chairs can be combined with one another so that you can sit on them in a stacked arrangement
Recently added page completion rewards have all been cube chairs. Since this is a difficult collection feature, there seems to be a concern that giving progression-related or material rewards would make the content feel mandatory
[Monster Collection] Expedition system and rewards

Once you complete a single row in Monster Collection, you can start sending expeditions and collecting expedition rewards. The rewards and expedition time vary depending on the box grade assigned to each row. Expeditions can be sent with characters level 200 or above, and expedition rewards can only be claimed up to 10 times per day per Maple ID
-
Minor Expedition Box line: rewards can be obtained every 1 hour
-
Decent Expedition Box line: rewards can be obtained every 3 hours
-
Good Expedition Box line: rewards can be obtained every 6 hours
-
Excellent Expedition Box line: rewards can be obtained every 24 hours

There are up to 5 expedition slots, and they open according to the collection counts shown above. The rewards are the same as the ones shown earlier, except without mesos

At present, the main reward can essentially be considered the mileage bundle. Based on an Excellent line expedition, you can expect about 140 mileage from one, so if you have collected 600 monsters and have 5 Excellent lines, that works out to roughly 700 mileage per day
[Monster Collection] Goals worth aiming for as a new player
Realistically, remembering to claim expedition rewards every 6 or 12 hours is fairly inconvenient, so the Excellent Expedition Box lines, which only need to be claimed every 24 hours like Mu Lung Dojo, are generally preferred. Since all 5 expedition slots open once you collect 600 entries, the common long-term goal is 600 monsters collected plus 5 Excellent Expedition Box lines
However, after other enhancement-currency rewards were removed, mileage became the main reward, and since that mileage is also included in the monthly maximum accumulation cap of 50,000, it may be better to first aim quickly for 300 monsters and 4 Excellent lines, and then collect more later if you have room for it
This is even more true because these days most returning or new players are playing in Challengers World, and Monster Collection itself is not available there. In any case, the important point is that there is absolutely no need to feel pressured about this

To begin with, monsters under level 100 are said to have a very high registration rate, so it is best to focus on those first. You can also make the process easier by stacking the Adventurer Archer link skill, event buff skills, and Sunday Maple effects when registering
As for Sunday Maple, unless a Special Sunday Maple event is running, it has recently been appearing on roughly a four-month cycle

There are various Excellent Expedition Box lines, but the examples above are often mentioned as having a manageable level of difficulty

There are also cases like this where registering just one monster is enough, so here as well there is no need to rush, and you can approach it at a comfortable pace
[Monster Collection] Cube chair reward image collection
These take the form of the main monster or character representing each line. In most cases, obtaining them directly in-game is very difficult, so it is best to treat this as a simple visual reference

[Monster Collection] Medal reward collection
Lastly, there are also medal rewards that can be obtained based on the number of registered monsters in each region. The difficulty varies by region
-
Register 50 monsters in Victoria Island / register 35 monsters in Friends World

-
Register 100 monsters in Victoria Island / register 45 monsters in the islands near Victoria

-
Register 50 monsters in Edelstein / register 50 monsters in El Nath Mountains

-
Register 50 monsters in Ludus Lake / register 20 monsters in Aqua Road

-
Register 40 monsters in Nihal Desert / register 35 monsters in Mu Lung Garden

-
Register 50 monsters in Minar Forest / register 50 monsters in Temple of Time

-
Register 50 monsters in Grandis / register 50 monsters in Arcane River

[Achievements]

Lastly, Maple Achievements is a feature added in 2017. It records almost every action that can be carried out in the game, and achievements are completed when specific conditions are met
This system is extremely broad and deep, and because many parts of it are influenced by luck, such as item drops, it is truly high-difficulty content. Fortunately, however, there are no progression-related rewards at all, so the sense of obligation is close to zero. There are even extremely demanding achievements such as directly reaching 30 Star Force, so completing every achievement is realistically impossible
For that reason, new players do not need to pay much attention to it, and even later on, unless you are the type of player who likes to explore this kind of content in depth or you need the Maple Home furniture mentioned below, there is no special reason to spend separate time on it

If you hover your mouse over the score section of an achievement like this, the completion rate for that achievement is displayed

For regional exploration, if you register it in the notifier like this, you can check the detailed information
Maple Achievement progress is shared within your Maple ID
[Maple Achievements] Maple Home Furniture
When Maple Home was updated, furniture that can be placed inside the home was added to some achievements at the same time

These mainly draw from characteristics associated with boss monsters. If there is an opportunity later, I will cover them in more detail
[Maple Achievements] Honor reward Maple Emblem

The honor reward that can be obtained according to achievement grade and ranking is the “Maple Emblem.” When used from the beginner skill tab, it displays the corresponding emblem above your character for 5 seconds

The currently available grades are as follows, and the requirements and emblem effects for each are listed below. As of the date of writing, the current rank 1 player has an impressive score of 42460 points
-
Bronze : 10 points ~ 4999 points

-
Silver : 5000 points ~ 19999 points

-
Gold : 20000 points ~ 29999 points

-
Platinum : 30000 points ~ 35999 points

-
