Hope you’re enjoying a fun and thoughtful life in Erinn!

As I worked my way through the many quests in Mabinogi Mobile,

I ended up meeting all kinds of characters and having all sorts of experiences.

There were moments that completely caught me off guard—like, wait, this character makes that kind of face and reacts like that?!

And of course, there were plenty of times that made me burst out laughing too.

The more vivid and varied a character’s expressions are,

the more they really feel alive, and the easier it is to get pulled into the story.

So while playing Mobinogi, I picked out a few characters who really felt like expression masters to me,

and I thought it would be fun to go through them together!

1 The hero no story can do without: the Adventurer

First up is the character we all share—the Adventurer!

They can show how they’re feeling through all kinds of expressions,

and those expressions are incredibly useful in conversations too.

In quests like the main story, and even in event cutscenes,

you get to see all sorts of expressions and think, ah, so this is how they react~

When you’re used to only seeing that neutral face while they’re just standing around,

and then those different expressions suddenly start conveying real emotion,

it can actually feel a little moving🥰

2 The Giant warrior, Aransheld

Next is the brave Giant you meet through the main quest, “Aransheld”!

He was such a cool warrior character, with that big-hearted energy and serious side all at once~

He gives you that big “haha!” kind of laugh,

so I figured he’d mostly just show that side of himself, along with his serious attitude in battle,

but then he saw the Adventurer do something completely unexpected…ㅋㅋ

and I still remember absolutely losing it when I saw that horrified expression on his face!

He turned out to be more open about showing his feelings than I expected,

and his expressions felt just as rich because of that.

It feels like he might show up again in the main story someday,

and if he does, I’d love to see even more of his expressions and different sides then too~

3 The one who looked like he wouldn’t shed a single drop of blood: Adwin

Then there’s “Adwin,” the noble among nobles who appears as you go through the Emain Macha story!

From his very first appearance all the way to the end of the main story, his expression barely changed,

and he felt like a stone-faced character who hardly ever let his emotions show.

But through this side story,

I got to catch at least a small glimpse of the story this older man had been carrying.

Was he smiling, or crying…

Was he in pain, or the complete opposite…

Seeing that hard-to-describe expression, packed with so many emotions,

I was honestly so stunned that I just stared at the scene in disbelief😲💥

A character who had hidden and buried everything,

finally breaking down and exploding in a single moment—that expression!

It was genuinely amazing, and I found myself thinking, a game character can have expressions this delicate…!

Before I knew it, I was mashing the screenshot button💦

who do you think most deserves the title of expression master?

For me, everyone showed off so many different expressions that it was hard to choose just one~

Ah, but on the other hand, I can absolutely pick one character for worst expressions!

What kind of expression is that face under the hood even making?

Is there even a face under there in the first place?

I’m really curious whether he’s making expressions that match his lines,

or some completely unexpected expression instead.

Since you can’t see his face, it makes you focus even more on the voice actor’s performance,

and it’s fun trying to guess what emotion the character is feeling just from the tone of his voice.
