A side-by-side look at the Ludibrium quest in MapleStory & MapleStoryM #연속 플레이

Hello

This time, the keyword is continuous play—the experience of playing two or more games in parallel—and I wanted to write a bit about that.

In the case of MapleStory and MapleStoryM, a lot of players tend to play both because of the mileage system, but this post is not really about that side of things. Instead, I wanted to focus on the story.

The appeal of comparing different elements that come from the same setting

As I understand it, MapleStoryM is now very much following its own path in both system and story, and I have also heard that even in the earlier regions there are places where it differs from the story in PC MapleStory. Still, because the underlying setting is the same, if you already know the original material, there is a certain fun in looking at the two side by side and comparing them.

I am not interested in every story, and I would not say I know all the details especially well either, but I do tend to look into the parts that catch my eye, and that naturally includes Victoria Island, which I have been familiar with for a long time.

Ludibrium, which I am using here as an example, also falls under Victoria Island, and it takes the regions, characters, and story we already know from PC MapleStory and adds extra lines and details around them. If that sort of thing interests you, I thought it was worth bringing both versions together and looking through them in one go.

Before getting into it

1) In both PC MapleStory and MapleStoryM, after the update that reorganized the pre-200 leveling route, quests themselves became less important, aside from things like raising sub-characters, achievements, and viewing the story.

2) In PC MapleStory, quest reworks removed or simplified some older quests that had a bit of tradition behind them (taking photos of the Roly-Poly workers / the process of getting a lunchbox from Nemi was removed). As for the requirements, the number of monsters you need to defeat is higher than you might expect. In the case of the Eos Tower quests, they can be completed in sequence as you move downward from the top.

3) In PC MapleStory, completing every quest lets you obtain a total of 11 Monster Bundles. The separate step where you had to break boxes and then enter the map has also been removed.

4) In PC MapleStory, if you complete all quests, you can obtain the Ludibrium Sheriff Medal.

5) In MapleStoryM, all quests can be progressed automatically, and the level requirements for them are not especially high, so if you are interested in the story of other regions as well, you can simply use auto-progress. After clearing them, you can also review all dialogue from completed quests in the quest menu, which makes going back through them fairly convenient.

6) Looking only at the Ludibrium quests, MapleStoryM feels a little more detailed, with more information and description related to the King of Ludibrium and Ludibrium's background.
