Over the past month, several of Nexon's flagship games have celebrated their anniversaries in close succession.

They range from a newcomer just past its first birthday to a game whose servers have been running since I was in elementary school.

​

There is something quietly striking about seeing such different eras of gaming coexist within one company.

​

I thought I would take a brief look at what each game has been up to. I also created terrarium versions of each game's world.

Mabinogi Mobile's 1st Anniversary

Mabinogi Mobile marked its 1st anniversary with a major update and a 1st Anniversary Festival.

​

The update introduced the main story “Advent of the Goddess, Chapter 4 Side Story: Pale Echoes,” the new deep dungeon “Barri Mining Sector 2,” and additional difficulty levels for the “White Succubus” raid and the field boss “크라마”.

​

Progression and customization also received substantial improvements, including a “Mastery Link System” that draws on existing classes' weapon mastery to help players progress with new classes, 6 new 8-star legendary runes, pet outfit dyeing, and an AR photo mode.

​

The new 몰리 server also opened, making this a good time for new players to get started.

​

For one thing, the 몰리 Burning Challenge offers plenty of items to help players get established, including 8-star legendary rune boxes and enhancement tickets.

I logged back in with my old character after some time away, and features like the Private Theater made it clear that the game is steadily building on what sets it apart.

Watching my character try out different expressions for a 1st-anniversary Life4Cuts photo strip, I felt that the game's particular charm was growing all the more distinctive.

DNF Mobile's 4th Anniversary

DNF Mobile added the Sirocco Raid for its 4th anniversary and is offering Next Highway (level jumping) and support for near-endgame builds to help new and returning players take on the challenge as well.

Anticipation is also building for the mid-April update, which is set to introduce the Male Fighter (Striker and Brawler) and a Ranma 1/2 collaboration.

MapleStory's 23rd Anniversary

To celebrate 23 years of service, MapleStory will hold a large-scale in-person event on April 29, booking all of Lotte World Adventure in Jamsil, Seoul, for the day.

​

From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., visitors can enjoy the “Maple Island” attraction, which officially opened on the 3rd, the ongoing “MapleStory in Lotte World” seasonal festival, and special events exclusive to the full-day booking.

​

Popular MapleStory creators will also be on-site as staff members for the day.

Ticket reservations will open in stages.

​

The 1st round opens on April 20 for players whose representative character is level 280 or higher. The 2nd opens on April 24 for those whose representative character is level 260 or higher but below level 280.

​

Even if you do not meet the level requirement, you can enter an invitation draw by April 15 for a chance to win tickets if you meet any of 9 conditions. These include logging in every day for the past 1 year or owning a character created in 2003. If you qualify, it is worth checking the details.

It is good to see a game with such a long history making a point of looking after its existing players. A 23rd-anniversary Change Burning event is also underway in-game, so you can join the celebrations online as well.

The Kingdom of the Winds' 30th Anniversary

First launched in 1996, The Kingdom of the Winds has released a major update to mark its 30th anniversary this year.

​

At the heart of the update is the new “흑화랑” class, which combines the martial arts of Silla's Hwarang with the power of 마고. Using sword dances and magical archery, the class switches freely between melee and ranged combat. It also has a unique mechanic for gathering the energy of the red moon to keep fighting.

​

The update also adds a substantial amount of content, with 9th advancement for all classes, a level cap increase to 949, the new raids “하칸” and “브리트라,” and the 8-player cooperative content “괴력난신”.

If you log in after a long absence, the sheer amount of change may feel disorienting.
