To mark Black Day, I’ve put together a MapleStory Monster Collection guide with tips. Alongside hunting and bossing, many players spend time filling out their Monster Collection.

It’s a surprisingly rewarding feature, so it’s worth getting familiar with if you play MapleStory regularly. It’s especially useful for solo players like me!

What Is Monster Collection?

Monster Collection is a collection book feature: each monster you defeat in a hunting area has a chance to be registered in your collection.

You can collect all kinds of monsters, from regular monsters to minibosses and bosses, making it a popular activity for players who enjoy collecting.

Monster Collection is divided into themes. Collecting every monster in a theme earns you rare items and titles as rewards. The stats aren’t particularly impressive, but they make nice keepsakes—it’s satisfying just to have them(?)

Completing a regional theme also earns you stackable chair items and additional random rewards, which adds to the fun.

The main draw of Monster Collection is probably the exploration feature. Explorations reward you with Reward Points and various items.

If, like me, you use Reward Points to buy a lot of cash items, this feature is especially worth your attention. The number of explorations available increases as your collection grows, so aiming for 600 monsters is an efficient approach.

How to Get Started

Adding monsters to your collection is simple. Just head to a hunting area with the monsters you need and farm them. Keep defeating them until they’re registered in Monster Collection—that’s all there is to it.

With good luck, you can finish quickly. With bad luck, you might spend over 1 hour without registering a monster. Bosses you can only defeat 1 time per week are particularly difficult to register, which really brings out my competitive side.

Tips

First, make use of event shops. Under the “Growth” tab, you’ll find an item called Mysterious Momon. Using it adds one monster to your Monster Collection.

If you get a monster you’ve already registered, you’ll receive a Substantial Exploration Box instead, so it’s worth a try if you have materials left over.

Second, use Link Skills. The Explorer Bowman Link Skill buff increases your “Monster Collection registration chance.” It’s a fairly substantial boost, so equipping it makes filling out your collection a little easier.

You’ll need to level up Bowman classes anyway, so you’ll naturally acquire this skill as you play MapleStory.

Also, take advantage of Sunny Sundays that boost your Monster Collection registration chance to get some extra farming done.
