A Solo Player’s Guide to MapleStory Monster Collection! #블랙데이
재파민

Hello to everyone who loves Nexon games,
this is Jaepamin!

Today, to celebrate Black Day, I put together a MapleStory Monster Collection guide and tips post. A lot of players interact with Monster Collection while hunting and running bosses, so it’s worth knowing how it works.
It’s one of those surprisingly rewarding systems, so if you play MapleStory often, it’s definitely something to keep in mind. And if you’re a solo player like me, I’d say it matters even more!
What Is Monster Collection?

Monster Collection is a collection-book feature where monsters from hunting maps are registered in your codex at a certain chance when you defeat them.
It covers every kind of monster, from regular mobs to mid-bosses and bosses, so players who like collection-style content tend to enjoy it a lot.

Monster Collection is divided into different themes. If you collect all the monsters in a given theme, you can earn rare items and titles as rewards. The stats aren’t especially high, but they make nice commemorative items, and it feels good to have them(?)
If you complete all the monsters in a regional theme, you can also build up chair items and get additional random rewards, which makes it pretty fun.

The biggest reason people do MonCol is probably the Exploration content. Exploration rewards include Mileage and all kinds of useful items, after all.
If you’re like me and buy a lot of Cash items with Mileage, this becomes even more important. The number of available Explorations increases based on how many entries you’ve collected, so pushing up to 600 is the most efficient approach.
How to Do It

Collecting MonCol is simple. Just go to a hunting map with the monsters you need for the collection and farm there. Then keep defeating them until they register in Monster Collection.
If you get lucky, it can be over quickly. If not, you can spend more than an hour and still not get the registration. Weekly bosses that you can only defeat once per week are especially tough to register in MonCol, so they really bring out that competitive streak.
Tips

First, make use of the event shop. If you open the “Growth” tab in the event shop, there’s an item called Mysterious Momong. Using it adds one monster to your Monster Collection.
If it ends up giving you a monster you’ve already registered, you receive a substantial Exploration box instead, so if you have leftover materials, it’s worth using.

Second is Link Skills. The Adventurer Archer Link Skill buff includes “Monster Collection registration rate,” and the value is quite high. If you equip it, collecting MonCol gets noticeably easier.
Since archer-type jobs are something you should be raising anyway, you’ll probably pick this up naturally as you keep playing MapleStory.
Also, when Sunday Maple features a Monster Collection registration rate bonus, that’s the perfect time to farm efficiently and make the most of it.
For solo players like me, this is a small but genuinely fun system, so let’s keep working on our Monster Collection together. Thanks for reading~
