Winston

Winston begins by asking the player whether they have heard of the tree ghost living in Perion. The player is skeptical, asking how ghosts could possibly exist.

Winston admits that he does not put much faith in the rumor either, but if it turns out to be true, it could help with his research. He has tried asking Perion's indigenous residents for information, but they will not tell him anything.

This is where the player's help comes in. Since the player has helped the people of Perion before, Winston believes they must be on good terms with the villagers and should be able to gather some information. He asks the player to visit Perion and find out what they know. True to their nature as an adventurer, the player seems curious as well.

Winston directs the player to speak with Blackbull, Ayan, Manji, and Dances with Balrog. He also suggests visiting Betty, the botanist in Ellinia, as she may know something too.

When the player asks Ayan, she explains that Camila from Henesys once saw the ghost while running an errand for her mother.

Apparently, the look in the tree's eyes made Camila think it was about to devour her. She was so frightened that she fainted on the spot. Although Camila is safe, the people of Perion are now too afraid to leave the village.

Blackbull recalls his father telling him about the tree ghost when he was young, though he still does not know whether the story is true.

Manji has not heard any rumors about a tree ghost, but he is concerned about the growing number of mysterious attacks in the Rocky Mountains to the east.

When the player speaks with Dances with Balrog, the Warrior Job Instructor, he seems to know something about the tree ghost. He calls it Stumpy.

He explains that it was already an ancient tree when Perion was still a lush forest. Seeing humans destroy the forest filled it with rage, eventually turning it into a monster. As the king of the Stumps, it is not to be taken lightly, and he warns the player to be careful.

Betty in Ellinia has not discovered anything beyond the fact that Ellinia's forest is rapidly drying out along the border with Perion, which she finds concerning.

The player then returns to Winston and shares everything they have gathered, giving him a clearer picture of the tree monster, Stumpy.
