Hello.

This time, the theme is April Fools’ Day, with a look back at events held for the occasion.

When used well, April Fools’ Day is a great opportunity to give players something fun to enjoy, and MapleStory has held events for the occasion fairly consistently. I have gathered some of the more memorable ones here.

2026 April Fools’ Event: [The Lost Roly-Poly Worker]

This year’s 2026 April Fools’ event, [The Lost Roly-Poly Worker], does not have many features that particularly evoke the occasion.

After accepting the event quest, players had to find a Roly-Poly Worker who had taken a wrong turn and ended up in Eos Tower.

From the perspective of this person from Seoul in a mascot costume, though, I imagine it feels quite fitting for April Fools’ Day.

The event runs through Sunday, April 5—today, as I write this. The Roly-Poly Worker can also appear in the Hidden Tower accessible from the 8th floor of Eos Tower, so be sure to check every location.

2025 April Fools’ Event: [Break the Overwhelming Octopus Curse]

The 2025 April Fools’ event, Break the Overwhelming Octopus Curse!, was themed around [Carcion Octo Festa], which was running at the time.

The octopuses being hunted in large numbers during that event cursed players, turning them into octopuses as well. The event then had players find a way to lift the curse.

While transformed into octopuses, players could not even speak human language, leaving them at risk of being hunted down by NPCs. Safely lifting the curse rewarded players with the Octopuuus! Damage Skin.

Apparently, the curse could even spread to other people. The creature indicated above was an Octopus, and lifting the curse from JM From tha Street at the octopus-filled Kerning City Construction Site rewarded players with a chair that let them transform into a cute octopus.

One unusual part of the event involved writing and submitting a three-line acrostic poem using the Korean syllables for April Fools’ Day. I cannot quite remember whether those submissions were used for anything afterward.

2024 April Fools’ Event: [Monday Maple]

Monday Maple, the 2024 April Fools’ event, was a parody of Sunny Sunday and took place on a Monday.

Along with EXP-related Sunny Sunday bonuses,

players could receive the Transparent Damage Skin (Unit) immediately just by having a conversation, making this a simple and worthwhile event.

2022 April Fools’ Event: [Find Pink Bean! One! Two! Three!]

The 2022 April Fools’ event, Find Pink Bean! One! Two! Three!, had players collect items requested by three Pink Beans.

The real Pink Bean was hiding among them, and I think anyone familiar with the mascots’ speech patterns could probably have worked out who was who from the way they spoke.

Completing all their requests rewarded players with the long underwear shown here and Haste Feathers, a currency used in the Haste Coin Shop.

2019 April Fools’ Event: [Toben Hair Is All the Rage]

The 2019 April Fools’ event, Toben Hair Is All the Rage, starred the Toben Hair Hero, who had been making a name for himself in MapleStory at the time with his veteran-player persona.

Dressed like a veteran player, the Toben Hair Hero appeared and asked players to defeat 20190401 monsters near their level before returning.

Of course, players only needed to defeat a few monsters to complete the event. He then delivered some memorable lines, handed out the reward, and disappeared.

The reward was the Toben Hair Hero Damage Skin, which could only be described as truly unusual.

2018 April Fools’ Event: [A Chaotic April Fools’ Event]

The 2018 April Fools’ event, A Chaotic April Fools’ Event, used an approach reminiscent of the backgrounds featured each year in MapleStory M.

In keeping with the art style shown here,

Elite Monsters appeared with the illustrated designs shown below,

and the event rewards included the absurd items shown above. In some ways, I think this event may have been the best fit for the April Fools’ theme.

April Fools’ commemorative items were also sold, including versions of the Commanders with 아잉눈 and the 안이뿌덩 weapon, an official parody of 개이뿌덩.

Before That…

In 2017, packages were sold to mark April Fools’ Day, while Change Hair and Face Coupons were available for a slightly longer period.

In 2016, all damage skins were changed to display only ㅋ.

In 2015, there was even an announcement that Pink Bean would be released as a playable class—and a month later, it actually was. It is rather remarkable to look back and see how that has effectively led to Lucid Burning today.

Finally, all the way back in 2008, MapleStory and DNF reportedly held a collaboration event in which they swapped homepages.

These were players’ reactions at the time. The comments have an innocence that feels hard to find these days ㅋㅋ

Thank you for reading.
