Hello.

This post takes Arbor Day as its theme, exploring tree- and plant-related elements found in games.

Plants, particularly trees, have many appealing and distinctive qualities, and MapleStory makes use of them in numerous locations. For this post, I have gathered relevant entries from the World Archive.

I focused on notable areas that incorporate trees and entries on tree- and plant-related monsters. I also included the items mentioned in each entry so they can be viewed together.

The Giant Tree Trunk at the Center of Victoria Island

Six Path Crossway lies at the very center of Victoria Island. From here, players can travel to the major areas of Henesys, Ellinia, Kerning City, Lith Harbor, Nautilus, and Perion.

A giant tree trunk stands at the center of this area. It is so large that its upper reaches connect to stations for travel to other continents, while its lower reaches lead to Sleepywood.

I do not recall the exact role this tree trunk played in MapleStory's story, but it reminded me of the game's early server selection screen. Back then, the view would move upward during login. When someone stitched those images together, they revealed a giant tree trunk extending all the way up, as shown here. I remember finding the result quite impressive.

I also like the current default server selection screen, but that giant trunk still stands out to me as a well-crafted design.

In contrast to the bright area above, the dark region of Sleepywood lies inside the tree trunk.

Within this region, I find the atmosphere of the Sleepywood Hotel, itself built inside a tree, particularly appealing.

The interior is also beautifully designed. It is unfortunate that only the sauna rooms are accessible, with no guest rooms implemented.

Unlike the hotel's restful interior, Sleepywood's backdrop feels as oppressive as the snowy mountain scenery of El Nath.

The 2 areas shown above are also located near this trunk. Both make striking use of trees in their designs.
