The Hidden Hilarious Dialogue in MapleStory’s Gold Beach Quest
재파민
Hello to all my fellow Nexon game fans,
this is Jaepamin!
Even in an MMORPG where you’re constantly busy leveling your character, there are little bits of content that bring some extra fun. So today, I put together a post about one of them: NPC dialogue.
Maple veterans probably already know all this, but I think it’ll be a fun little surprise for Maple newbies too!
Off to fun-filled Gold Beach!
I headed back to Gold Beach for the first time in a while to show you a funny little moment.
Gold Beach is a theme dungeon that was added in 2012, and the story is about defeating the Black Slimes that are damaging the beach ecosystem. It used to be a really popular hunting spot since the questline was fun and it gave a lot of EXP.
These days, the fast-leveling routes have changed, and with Tera Blink letting you shoot straight up to level 200, it’s not as popular anymore. Kind of a shame.
Anyway, if you keep pushing through the questline, the NPC Keri asks you to go find “Benjamin”. This is where the Black Slimes tormenting Gold Beach start to appear.
Gold Beach Benjamin
If you keep going right, you’ll meet Benjamin, who’s got a headache because of the Black Slimes. After diligently helping with what he asks for and talking to him again, he suddenly makes a totally out-of-nowhere(?) request.
Out of nowhere, he says he lost the wedding ring he was going to give his fiancée, Lois, and asks you to find it. I mean, sure, I can look for it... but what does that have to do with Gold Beach?
So back in my Maple newbie days, I got curious and hit the decline button. Then...
“Please, help me.”
He actually tacks that on and asks again. 😂 It made me laugh because he says it in such an oddly grave, serious tone.
He used to sound even more desperate than this, but I guess it got patched into a more polite version now. If I remember right, it used to be more like, “Please!!!”
Bonus) Bonnie
Personally, there’s another NPC I wish had some added interaction. It’s Bonnie in the Nautilus, and from 2007 all the way to now, she’s been plugging a leak by herself.
If you count the years, that means she’s been doing it alone for 19 years. There are plenty of other NPCs around her too, so it feels a little heartless. The line about needing help keeps showing up, so I really hope she gets a related quest someday.
And that’s it for this little look at NPC interactions you can find in the world of MapleStory. What are some fun interactions you all know about? Thanks for reading!
