Today, we’re finally getting back to a MapleLand quest guide. This time, the Lower Town quest we’ll be covering is the Mountain Spirit’s Golden Axe, Silver Axe Quest. You’ve probably heard this folktale plenty of times before, right? So let’s see how MapleLand handles it.

Mountain Spirit

The Mountain Spirit has suddenly ended up with a bump on his head, so of course the player asks what happened.

The Mountain Spirit explains that it all started with an axe that fell into the pond a few days ago. He got so angry that he threw it back out, but now a woodcutter has come by and is shouting for him to return it immediately. He says the woodcutter refuses to take a golden axe or a silver axe instead. Oddly enough, the woodcutter is being a little too wise here.

Anyway, the Mountain Spirit did promise to help recover the lost item, but no matter how much he searches, he can’t find it. Still, he guesses one of the nearby monsters that walks around with an axe stuck in its head may have taken it. With that, he asks the player for help.

So the quest objective is simple: defeat Dark Axe Stumps and recover the Woodcutter’s Iron Axe.

How to Get the Woodcutter’s Iron Axe

Getting the Woodcutter’s Iron Axe is pretty straightforward. Defeat Dark Axe Stumps to obtain the item called Axe, then speak to the Mountain Spirit so he can confirm whether it’s the Woodcutter’s Iron Axe or not.

Once you’ve picked up the axe and had the Mountain Spirit confirm that it’s the Woodcutter’s Iron Axe, the quest is basically 99% done. At that point, just head over to the woodcutter.

Woodcutter

For reference, the woodcutter is at the upper-right area of Tiger Forest 2. Once you get there, just talk to him.

When you speak to him, the woodcutter says it looks like the one he lost.

After checking it, he confirms that it really is the one he lost. He explains that while working as a woodcutter, his hand slipped and the axe fell into the pond. Then the Mountain Spirit apparently flung his axe off somewhere. The spirit had promised to find it again, but the woodcutter says he’d been pretty worried. Thanks to the player bringing it back, though, he expresses his gratitude. In the end, this whole thing was just a small misunderstanding between the two.

Reward

Once you clear the quest, you receive a book from him. The reward is 1 Golden Axe, Silver Axe Storybook and 14,000 EXP. So yes, we get another storybook this time too.

The woodcutter had been having a pretty rough time without the tool he was so used to using. And with that, the quest comes to an end.

Wrapping Up

This time, we went over another quest connected to a storybook. Now that we’ve obtained it, I suppose this is another item related to Wiz. Lower Town has quite a few fairy tale-themed quests, which makes it more interesting than you might expect.
