Running from October 17 to November 20, 2024,

the MapleStory X DAVE THE DIVER event

was the most fun I’ve had with a collab event so far,

and other players really enjoyed it too, so I hope they team up again.

The DAVE THE DIVER event had 3 parts:

Blue Hole Exploration

Defeating fish in the Blue Hole

gets you the seafood you need to run Bancho Sushi,

and you can spend your earnings from Bancho Sushi on upgrading your Blue Hole exploration equipment.

The more you upgrade your equipment, the longer you can stay in the Blue Hole and the easier it is to hunt fish.

I’d never played this kind of game before, so I used maps made by other players to find my way around as I played every day,

and it really felt like I was exploring the ocean, which made it so much fun.

I’d never been interested in fish, so apart from the well-known ones, I didn’t even know what they were called,

but I ended up learning their names just from playing.

I still think about that thresher shark...

Running Bancho Sushi

You cook the seafood you collect while exploring the Blue Hole into dishes to sell,

then use the money to upgrade your exploration equipment or hire MapleStory NPCs as staff.

At the start of the event, serving food, clearing empty plates, serving green tea, and grinding wasabi

were all up to me, so things got pretty hectic, but once I hired some staff later on,

they handled everything even if I just stood there, which made things so much easier.

Blue Hole Creature Collection

Any fish you defeat in the Blue Hole are automatically added to the Blue Hole Creature Collection,

and filling in each row earns you a variety of rewards.

Most of the fish are from DAVE THE DIVER,

but there’s one from MapleStory too...

It’s the final boss, Pianus!

You have to defeat both the Pianus that spawns on the left and the one that spawns on the right,

and, as you’d expect from a final boss, there were plenty of different mechanics to deal with, which made the fight fun.

Here’s my completed Blue Hole Creature Collection!
