Today, I’ll explain how to set up two-factor authentication to help keep your Nexon account secure.

What is two-factor authentication?

Even if you usually manage your password carefully, your ID and password can still be exposed through hacking.

When that happens, this works as a second layer of security to protect your account.

OTP, in particular, stands for One-Time Password. It generates a one-time password based on a fixed encryption rule, so it is an effective way to maintain account security.

Registering Nexon OTP

Let’s take a quick look at how to register for Nexon OTP.

First, log in on the nexon.com website.

After logging in, go to the ‘Security Center.’

You can use the shortcut button directly from the main screen,

or access it from the menu in the top right.

Then click Register Nexon OTP.

I’ve already completed the registration, so this is how it appears for me.

If you have not registered yet, you should see a Sign Up button.

The website explains the setup process step by step when you sign up.

You really only need to keep track of two things: the serial number and the verification number.

First, download the app from the store.

After downloading it, log in to the app and tap the OTP menu in the center.

Here, the 12-digit value in the middle is the ‘serial number.’

And the box in the middle where you enter 4 digits is the OTP field.

Nexon OTP works by entering the password generated online into the app to apply it.

Example

For example, when you try to delete a character in MapleStory, you will be asked to enter the OTP.

If you really want to delete it, you need to enter the number shown on this screen into the Nexon Play app.

Take the number shown here

and enter it in the spot shown above.

In other words, it helps prevent someone from taking over your account and deleting your character maliciously.

Additional tip

If it feels inconvenient to enter an OTP every time you launch a game on your home PC,

try using the designated PC registration feature in the Security Center.

Agree to the collection of your PC information,

set a nickname for the device,

and then run NGM to finish the setup.

It says this does not work on MAC, so if you use a Mac, you will need to use OTP ㅜㅜ

On a PC registered this way, you will not need to enter an OTP when launching the game.

One important note: do not register a designated PC on a shared computer, such as one at a PC bang.
