MapleStory Maps That Bring a Sense of Calm #마인드풀니스
마빡도로시
Hello
The keyword for this post is mindfulness—looking for those moments in-game when your mind naturally begins to settle.
Among MapleStory’s many maps, I imagine there is at least one place each of you has grown personally fond of. The fact that terms like idle spots and guild house exist at all says something on its own, and I think it shows that the sense of comfort a map can offer, when it starts to feel almost like home, has always carried a quiet importance.
So in this post, I’ve gathered a few places that have stayed with me over time—maps that feel especially nice to stop by now and then for a calmer moment.
Aquarium : Snow-Covered Whale Island
Snow-Covered Whale Island, located in the Aquarium region, is the only place in Aquarium where you can see the ground covered in snow. The BGM also changes to El Nath’s.
Just a little over two months ago, it was used as the destination for a hidden mission during the snowman event, but in ordinary times this is not really a place players have much reason to visit, which makes it a good spot to be alone. It is a little unfortunate that you cannot go inside the igloo.
This Whale Island also has a matching Sand Island placed symmetrically on the map, and since that side is closer in location to Korean Folk Town than to El Nath, I liked that it was arranged this way. For those who prefer summer to winter, that may be the nicer place to visit instead.
Sleepywood : Sleepywood Hotel Sauna
The older classic maps are all well loved, but personally I find Sleepywood Hotel especially impressive because it blends so naturally with the atmosphere of the town itself. It does feel a little unfortunate that only the sauna room was implemented.
Also, since the VIP Sauna—which has now more or less become a permanent event—belongs to Sleepywood Hotel as well, you can enter from here too instead of going only through the event notifier.
Arcana : Tree-Trunk Harp Forest
Tree-Trunk Harp Forest, which you can access from Arcana’s Forest of Thunderclouds, is a place you were certain to pass through if you played Arcana’s story quest. These days, though, all story quests from Vanishing Journey onward up to just before Gerdarak can be skipped, so newer players may not be very familiar with it.
You can enter it through the portal in the wooded area where the spirits in the image above are gathered, and because it is classified as a personal map, it has the feeling of a small secret cave of your own.
There was a time when Arcana village and the deep forest beside it were both fairly crowded, so I remember coming here when I wanted somewhere a little quieter. Looking back on that now, it really does make the passage of time feel different.
Kerning City : Hardware Store
I have liked Kerning City’s hardware store for a long time because of its cozy atmosphere, and I still do. The refined minerals stacked so neatly in the background are especially pleasing to look at.
El Nath : General Store and Weapon Store
All of El Nath’s buildings have their own sense of charm, but these two stand out in particular. The sunlight coming through those windows captures a feeling of warmth especially well amid all that cold.
Ludibrium : Residents’ Houses
In Ludibrium, before you head toward Eos Tower, there is an area where the residents live, and you can take a look through the homes of the different townspeople.
The homes of the glove and shoe craftsmen
Corin’s House - the boards over the window were added because of the anxiety that developed after being abducted by aliens
Nemi’s House
Alongside these houses with actual residents, there is also, quite interestingly, an ownerless house on the second floor.
The map I like most in Ludibrium is this empty two-story house, and seeing that quite a few people seem to remember it as well, I find myself thinking that the coziness of that Lego-built home must have left a stronger impression than expected.
Maple Home
Maple Home is where this idea was fully introduced as content in its own right. Since it was first added, renovation work and furniture items have continued to arrive steadily, and unlike the maps above, one major advantage here is that there is nothing forced about it—only players who want to take part need to do so, and the atmosphere can be decorated however they like.
With the most recent update, a full Maple Home preset was added as well, so it does seem to be improving steadily in terms of convenience.
In the event beginning on March 5, you will be able to obtain furniture like this.
The newly added Guild Castle
Following Maple Home, this recently added content can be seen as an extension of that same direction.
It seems it will take quite a bit of time to unlock everything, but once your level goes up it does not drop again over time, so this feels like something best approached slowly, with a longer view in mind.
The quality of the map feels completely different from Maya’s House, which had commonly been used as a guild house before and often became the source of disputes. Since this space can also be decorated through various functions and placements, I think it may serve as quite a nice piece of content for those who had wanted something like this. It has also been mentioned that it will receive regular upkeep, much like Maple Home.
A strangely soothing BGM
Lastly, this is not a map I have personally visited, but there is one place that has long stayed in my mind whenever I think of a calming atmosphere: the bathhouse map in Showa Town, a map not present in KMS. The BGM there is quite distinctive. I do not know whether ASMR was even a thing back then, but intended or not, it feels like perhaps the only BGM in MapleStory that carries that kind of feeling.
Thank you for reading.
